Another Fun Day Golfing at Red Sky Ranch

Hard to beat a 2 1/2 hour round!

It’s hard to beat the Vail Valley in the summer time.  And one of my favorite outdoor activities this summer has become an early morning round of golf at Red Sky Ranch.  Clear skies, cool temperatures, gorgeous Red Sky Ranch views, and no one on the course except the maintenance guys.  With family responsibilities occupying more of my time, I absolutely love getting out and playing 18 and still being done by 9 or 10 am.

Yesterday was a perfect morning, with sunshine and bright blue above, and green all around.  After a quick bite, a cup of coffee, and an equally quick warm up, I headed out to the Fazio course.  (Mike Valiant and the oustide staff do a fantastic job keeping this course in unbelievable shape.)  I played pretty well, . .  until I got to the greens.  Unfortunately for my score, 3-putts were common.  I was on in regulation for 7 of the front 9, but could only score a 41.

I scored worse on the back nine, as I put a couple of tee shots into the woods.  Hard to score well when you’re "3 off the tee".  Thankfully, I finally got my birdie on the par 5 18th, after a huge drive, a great 3 wood, and a 2 putt.  All this fun in 2 and a half hours!!  It is the summer time equivalent to a powder day.  And then it’s off to work.
