Birds of Prey World Cup Results
USA finishes strong in speed events
For several days last week there was concern at the Beav whether they could hold the World Cup Races, but cold weather for snow making and a late storm enabled the now famous race to take its place in the FIS record books. The first race was the new Super Combined event, won by Daniel Albrecht from Switzerland. However, the USA did great with Bode MIller fourth, Ted Ligety in 8th and TJ Lanning in 10th. Then later in the week, Albrecht won the GS after coming from 11th place in the first run. Ted Ligety from USA was in 4th, just missing out on the podium.
Always considered to be the most popular race on the Birds of Prey is the downhill and this year was no different. Michael Walchhoffer from Austria won the race just edging out Steve Nyman from USA by a close .05 seconds. Then Bode Miller came in fifth just a half second out of first. The most exciting news was the newest member of the US team, Andrew Weibrecht, came from the 52nd spot to finish tenth. Quite an exciting day for our boys in the speed events.
During the entire week, I was a Course Super raking and shoveling snow off the scary Golden Eagle Jump, where we got to see the speedsters up close passing by at over 75 mph. If you would like some first hand stories of the events or just some plain explanations of the real estate market here in Vail, please give me a call. Judd Babock at 970-376-3230.
