Blogging the Playing Field in Vail Valley Real Estate

Competing in the world of technology and Vail Valley Real Estate

When I started selling real estate in the Vail Valley in the late 80’s, one of my personal goals was to become one of the more knowlegable brokers in both the real estate industry and Vail Valley real estate inventory. And, as i look back on my career, i have accomplished this goal and continue with Gateway Land and Development Company, to be on the innovative edge of the real estate industry, real estate technology and the Vail real estate market.

Thus, I am now a self proclaimed veteran blogger. This was first an effort we put forth to help with our company’s internet promotion goals but I am quickly finding this platform to be much more than that.

One frustating thing about the real esate industry (and many other industries) that I have experienced through the years is the old addage, "It’s not what you know, it’s who you know". It has quickly come to my attention in a real estate market where there are over 600 brokers competing for sales, that blogging, for the first time, allows me to effectively share my thought leadership about the Vail Valley real estate market with the masses. Therefore, the process will eventually help weed out the Realtors in Vail who are less knowledgeable as well as those who work in the business part time…because the real estate business has definately become a forty hour plus per week occupation.

The other realization that was evident is that blogging will "level the playing field" with some of our major competitors. You see, in Vail, we have an 800 pound gorilla; this real estate company was born from one of the major developers in the Vail Valley and has since expanded its divisions into marketing, technology, transportation, hotel/retail ownership and rental management. The amount of money that they throw at marketing and strategic relationships between their entities keeps this company in the media limelight. They also have real estate offices behind the gates of several of the higher end communities and try to keep all of the other real estate companies out. Although good for them, it is not necessarily for the Vail Valley real estate consumer and certainly makes competing with this company a challenge. Blogging allows me to bring the consumer accurate and unslanted information about Vail Valley real estate and moreover, the Voice to be heard. It truely helps Gateway Land and Development "level the playing field".
