Commercial Developement Coming to Gyspum in a Big Way

Town of Gypsum to review plans for the Tower Center project.

After recently receiving building plans from big box realtor Costco, the little Town of Gypsum Colorado is about to begin reviewing plans for the Tower Center.  The project is located on Highway 6 just north of  Vail-Eagle airport which serves Vail and the Vail Valley including Eagle, Gypsum and Aspen.  Situated on 120 acres, the developer, Washington D.C based Next Realty, is proposing 500,000 plus sq ft of commercial and retail space along with 320 housing units.  If approved and when leased out, Gypsum could be looking at an estimated $5.6 million in sales tax revenues.  After waiting many years for a commecial base that would generate healthy sales tax revenues it appears the Town of Gypsum’s ship has just docked.  Plans call for general merchandisers, a large home improvement store, convenience store, restaurants, bank and a pharmacy.  The housing component is made up of a mix of condos, townhomes, and single family homes on small lots.  The housing plan is designed/planned to be "affordable housing."   jnichols@gatewayland.com
