Developer delays open space switch
Remonov & Co wants to build on open space, but county wants to see plans first.
A decision on whether a fdeveloper can build on land marked for open space in Edwards has been postponed at the request of the developer. Remonov and Co. developer Rick Mueller was going to ask county commissioners next Tuesday if they would remove conditions on 7 acres of land in downtown Edwards that are designated for open space. However county planners told developers they wanted to see plans for what they wanted to build. Mueller said he did not know he needed to have plans for the land before clearing the up the open space restrictions. He had several ideas for what could be build, including high density work force housing, a child care center, and an access road between Highway 6 and Edwards village boulevard.
The county needs to figure out what they want on the land. Remonov and co, the developers who built Edwards corner and Edwards village center had proposed a high end condo project designed by high profile architect Daniel Liebeskind on the same land last year. However it turned out that the land had open space restrictions, forcing developers to abandon the project.
