Eagle County About To Lose More Work Force Housing Units

Owner of River Run Planning on Turning Complex Into Condos.

Almost daily one can find an article about the lack of affordable housing in Eagle County.  An just as often one can find an article about different local governing bodies who are on a mission to create more affordable housing in Eagle County……some how.

The latest such opportunity sliding through the local governing bodies fingers is River Run, a 117 unit complex, located in the Eagle-Vail area along the river.  This housing is just a little west of Vail with easy access to public transportation and a bike path to Vail.

If only the County hadn’t decided to spend $13 million on a gravel pit with no real access, there would have been substantial funds available to acquire River Run units which would provide "workforce housing" for Vail Valley employees.

Look for River Run and its 117 units to become second homeowner properties.  Why?  The developer will squeeze the County for maximum dollars and the County with all of its housing committees and egos will not be able to make a timely decision.

In the mean time more articles will be printed about how the government should provide housing for the working class.  There will also be more articles about how our local governing bodies will make it their mission to create more work force housing.

The fact of the matter is, this housing issue has been on going since the very early days of Vail.
