Edwards’ ‘Water Tower’ Trail Considered by US Forest Service for Protection

This and other popular 'unofficial' trails up for consideration

The "Water Tower" trail is very popular among Edwards residents. The trail begins in Upper Homestead and ends up with a connection to "Mud Springs" and Arrowhead.

Popular with mountain bikers in the summer (widely known as A10) looking for a challenging climb from Arrowhead to Homestead, and year round from Homestead heading east, this trail is one of several being considered by the Forest Service for official trail designation, maintenance and protection. Other trails being considered include Nottingham Gulch (connecting Davos to Buck Creek) and Matterhorn (connecting West Vail to Eagle’s Nest). Part of the challenge with these popular trails is that many of them cross private property at some point.

The extensive trail system in the Vail Valley is one of the most treasured amenities available to homeowners and guests alike.

Hopefully these (and the others submitted) will be accepted and approved by the Forest Service’s Travel Managements Plan. In the event the trails are not approved, the trails will be enforced as closed and the public will likely loose all current access.

Local support will be the key to winning these trails!
