EverVail: A Foregone Conclusion?

Vail Resorts Likely To Get Their Way

It seems Vail Resorts’ massive project slated for West Lionshead has already been approved.  But just so you know, it hasn’t!  If you read the Vail Daily, everyone quoted seems to talk about it as a foregone conclusion, and maybe it is.

Vail Resorts, through a deed restriction, has the ability to shoot down any new development on the Lionshead parking structure. So if they (VR) don’t get what they want, the town won’t get what it wants.  The big question is:  will the residents of Vail get what they want??!!  Do any of the locals even want EverVail?

Across the board, everyone will say the town needs more parking (and it does).  But to attach a $1 billion development to the concept of this needed parking is a bit out of hand.  Vail Resorts is shrewd and always well prepared, but it seems the public is asleep on this one.  Is there no way to address the parking scenario without building EverVail?

It remains to be seen what will result, especially with the current real estate downturn, but it sure feels like EverVail is simply a matter of when, not a matter of if??
