Getting to Know the Vail Valley: Sandstone and Potato Patch

Sandstone and Potato Patch have sunny days and amazing views

Located on the banks of Red Sandstone Creek, on the north side of I-70, Sandstone is the only neighborhood in Vail where you can enjoy a full day of sun from your patio with incredible panoramic views of the Gore Range Mountains while watching skiers make turns down Vail Mountain

Over the past few years Sandstone units have been updated to take advantage of their ideal location within the short term rental market and prices have gone up to reflect it.  Many homes in lower Sandstone sit on the creek and are a short walk over the skier bridge to Lionshead and the Eagle Bahn Gondola.  Of course, within the town you can always catch the free Town of Vail bus to go just about anywhere.

Potato Patch sits in upper Sandstone directly across from Vail’s ski runs, giving residents panoramic views of Vail Mountain, the Gore Range Mountains and the amazing western sunsets.  Southfacing, the sun bakes on these hillside homes giving Potato Patch its reputation for being the warmest neighborhood in the town of Vail.  Potato Patch offers every size and type of home, along with a club with a fitness center, pool and tennis courts.  With these views and a location within the Town of Vail, expect to pay a little more, and it will be well worth it!

You’ll find endless hiking and single track biking trails just up the hillside behind Sandstone.  The fun, quick and technical North Trail System runs from Red Sandstone Elementary up to the west and back down behind the grocery stores.

Above the neighborhood, the Ranch at Spraddle Creek offers high country horseback riding and kids’ summer camps for riding or exploring the forest on foot.  The long and windy dirt Red Sandstone Rd. (car summer access only, snowmobile in winter) leads up to the breathtaking high mountain Piney Lake.  Surrounded by stunning mountain peaks this is a perfect place for biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, hunting, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, bird watching, taking photographs or getting married.   If it involves the outdoors, this is a great place to do it.
