Homestead funding plan fails

Homestead court club owners association resoundingly rejected a proposed 1 % real estate transfer fee.  Both the tax and the voting method had some homeowners up in arms.  To vote *yes* homeowners were asked to mail back the ballots.  To vote *No* they were supposed to do nothing.  Homestead has 810 property owners eligible to vote in that election.  Colorado law gives the board the green light to take the issue to a District court judge, who could order the fee. Homestead officials said they would not bring up the issue till 2010.

Battles over money are hardly new to Homestead.  In 2005 the Board spent 25K to help buy the the Eagle River Preserve, part of the former B&B gravel pit operation that used to operate in Edwards.  Prior to taht, the board had asked to increase dues to the association, which homeowners approved.
