Lionshead Garage Redevelopment
Town Council to Decide to Proceed or Not

Vail Town Council will decide in December whether to proceed or not to proceed with East West Partner’s design or with Open/Hillwood’s design for redevelopment of the new Lionshead parking garage site. The two contenders, East West Partners of Avon and Open Hospitality Partners/Hillwood Capital of Dallas have presented their plans to the public and Council.
The East West proposal includes -1,500 public parking spaces (including stores and those for civic center), 150 Hyatt On Vail Mountain hotel rooms, 75 Timeshares, 120 Condos, A Civic/Learning Center (60,000 sq. ft. with 25,000 sq. ft. Ballroom), 35,000 sq. ft. of stores and restaurants, Nonprofit offices, Wellness Center, Information Center and Bus Station.
The Open/Hillwood proposal includes - 1,605 Public Parking Spaces (including parking for stores and arts center), or 1,302 public parking spaces on site and 285 off-site public parking spaces, 240 W and St. Regis hotel rooms, 25 Timeshares, 100 Condos, Spas, Meeting rooms in hotels, 68,500 Sq. ft. of stores and restaurants, A Visual and Performit Arts Center (32,000 sq ft. with 16,000 sq. ft. ballroom), Information cednter and Bus Station.
Costs for both proposals are about $500 Million and both developers are aiming to start the project in 2008, with a completion date of 2010. Vail Resorts is planning a parking garage in west Lionshead that could add 400 public parking spaces by the time construction starts on the Lionshead garage. There are only 1,150 Parking spaces available now, so both plans will enhance the area of Lionshead.
If you want to have some input into this huge project, now is the time to review the plans and participate in the survey.
I encourage you to get involved while the boys are still willing to listen to the locals and property owners.
