One of the oldest and most historic areas in the Vail valley, Wolcott has preserved its hertiage and "old west" feel unlike any other place in Eagle County. Once primarily used as pastures for grazing sheep, and a thoroughfare for the western railroad line, the rolling mountains surrounding Wolcott are home to vast areas of open space and to the scenic and rushing Eagle River.

Wolcott recently celebrated another milestone with the creation of Red Sky Ranch, an elegant golf course community. Red Sky has focused on low density communities, stressing the value of preserving the open spaces common to Bellyache Ridge. This, along with hunting restrictions has allowed for trophy sized big game and wildlife to flourish on its mountainsides.
