Summertime in the Vail Valley
Summertime adventures in the Vail Valley
Everyone here says they moved to Vail for the skiing but they stay here for the summers, and this year has proven to be another spectacular season of ‘Fun in the mountains’. Every year we find more ’single track’ mountain bike rides starting on Vail mountain and then up to Camp Hale and west on the Red and White mountain trail all the way to Dotsero. In the meantime, the rivers have stayed full all summer, in spite of the ’so called’ hot weather. Kayaking can be a challenge but we have lessons and paddle classed if you are just getting started. And from the Shoshone rapids in Glenwood Canyon to the easy rapids on the Upper Colorado, there is excitement for every ability level. Hiking into the White River National Forest or just taking some of the nearby trails behind your house are both a must when you live out here.
Tennis is still a popular sport especially in Edwards at the Homestead Court Club, where a host of pros can set you up with a game at an ability level. There are men’s and ladies leagues and also mixed doubles. A great way to make some new friends and get a work out as well. Golf is now so prolific that we have 15 courses to choose from, with more planned for next year. Some are private and some public, so you can pick your course designer and either join one or play them all.
The Vail Valley is so full of adventures and sports that is hard to name them all. Fishing is huge with lots of guides to help you find the right hole. Rock climbing, hang gliding, and lots of other more dangerous challenges are always easy to find.
