Fall Colors Abound In The Vail Valley

The peak of the aspen leaves changing is coming...

Rocky Mountain Fall Colors

Fall in the Vail Valley is quite possibly the most spectacular time of year to be here.  Early September brings the first signs of fall when the scrub oak and grasses begin thier annual transformation of hues.  This means that in the next few weeks the Aspens will burst into autumnal gold.

Amid this fall foliage are some of the most enjoyable Vail Valley experiences.  Hiking, biking, and fly-fishing are at their best and the crowds are nowhere near their peak levels.  Activities such as Oktoberfest, which takes place in Beaver Creek, Lionshead, and Vail over three consecutivee weekends at the beginning of September, is a great event with German beers, food, and music.  The Evergold 10K  mountain race, which takes place on Vail mountain is another classic fall event. This is also a great time of year for golfers, greens fees tend to come down in price, the crowds for the most part are gone and the fall colors add a special back drop to a round at any of the Vail Valley courses. Many of the Vail area courses remain open well into October, weather permiting.

Fall is also a great value for lodging as many of the local hotels and property mangement companies offer discounted rates at this time.  It can also be the perfect time to find that ski home you have been dreaming of in the Vail Valley.  Throughout the fall keep an eye out for plenty of open houses as this is a great way to see lots of different types of properties in a short amount of time.

Peak  leaf colors should take place about the third week of September and depending on the weather could stick around even longer.  Make your plans to get to the Vail Valley today.
