Vail Town Meeting
2007 Focus on Development and Employee Housing

The Vail Town Meeting at Donavon Center last night was well attended by locals and politicians. A big thank you was given to the Town of Vail employees who provide the hidden services - beautiful lights on the trees, snow plowing, street scape, parking, and security. The 2006 tax revenue is up in spite of all the new construction.
Looking to 2007 - Issues remain on I-70 noise reduction, parking problems on the frontage roads, $8 Million dollars available from the past convention tax collected and how to appropriate it, bringing the community together, and of course, the 30% employee housing need within the town limits.
Discussion from builders expressed concern that forcing the 30% employee housing on builders and owners who want to remodel and add on to their homes, will drive costs up and homeowners and builders away.
Rod Slifer, Mayor, said the proposals are just in the preliminary stages and there will be public open discussion forums, town planning commission approval and finally Town Council approval. There may be different requirements for different size homes, Slifer said.
So stay abrest of of the open discussion dates and stay informed if you have any interest in property in Vail. Slifer says he wants to hear the community’s concerns.
