Lionshead Redevelopment
Vail Town Council Wants VR To Give More
Well, it seems that Vail Resorts’ public image within the town of Vail needs a makeover. The Vail Town Council has finally started asking "What do we get out of it?", with regards to the new west Lionshead redevelopment plan. Vail Resorts gets the chance to sell hundreds of millions ($$$$) in real estate, but it is yet to be apparent of the benefit to the community.
Moving their corporate offices to the front range has added to the perception that Vail Resorts is in it for the money. Are you shocked? Come on, they are a publicly traded company and as such, they answer to their shareholders. Dollar signs ARE their motivating factor. We knew this was coming back in ‘93 when the ski resort went public. It just seems some people are finding out now.
I’m not upset with Vail Resorts; they do what they are designed to do. And they do their jobs very well. I guess I’m upset with people’s perception that they have altruistic motives and are here for the benefit of the community.
Its about time the Town of Vail acts with the best interest of its constituents in mind. I’m very curious to see what the community will get out of this deal. Let’s hope its everything!
