Even Locals Get Frostbite!
Be Prepared On Cold Days
What a great few days of skiing we had here on Vail Mountain this past week. With over 3 feet in a week, and cold days with limited visibility, it made for a local’s dream come true. . . that local being me. There were few people on the mountain (at least where I like to ski), and tree skiing was almost a must due to in-the-cloud conditions.
Face shots and deep powder abounded, but so did high winds and bitter cold. Leading me and my frostbitten cheeks to the point of this blog; BE CAREFUL OUT THERE when its windy and cold. Even while checking each other’s faces and noses for white opaque spots, I still managed to get three small spots of frostbite. While they didn’t and don’t hurt, had I stayed out any longer, it might have gotten ugly. (Literally)
Go in to warm up if need be, even if it means delaying that dream run on your favorite powder stash. To discuss more mountain awareness (not my favorite powder stash) please contact: Doug Schwartz at 970-926-6777 or at dougs@gatewayland.com
