Eagle County Residents Happy With Quality of Life
Recent County Survey Show 81% Of Residents Enjoy Quality Of Life In Eagle County
It is no surprise the Eagle County residents are happy with their life here in Happy Valley. When you combine a small town feel, sense of community, the scenic beauty and instant access to outdoor activities how could you not be.
The survey asked respondents what one thing they would change to improve the quality of life. Eighteen percent said limit growth and 15% said create more affordable housing. The two top concerns are growth and development; and affordability.
As one would surmise, those surveyed are hoping the government will fix these issues. The majority of those surveyed support limiting the number of residential building permits issued annually.
Well, lets see, 18% of the jobs in Eagle County are construction related; second only to professional services and consulting which accounts for 26% of jobs in the County.
So, the government limits building permits, the construction work force diminishes freeing up more housing for service industry employees and provides more opportunities for the rest of the middle class to buy a home previously owned by someone involved in the construction trade.
Then, we get the government to take things another step further by limiting the number of shops and restaurants. That would free up even more housing which would go along way to filing the need for 3,500 work force housing units.
Once the government reduces the number of construction workers and the number of retail/service workers they can put the proverbial gate up at the top of Vail Pass.
Once the government locks the gate, the housing and affordability issues will be solved further improving the quality of life for those left in the County. The 81% number could then go to 99% or 100%.
Yeah, that’s the ticket!!
