High Speed Quad Proposed for Back Bowls

When Quantity overwhelms Quality

In November of 2003, citizens and skiers in the entire Vail Valley rose up in arms when Vail Associates tried to add two(not one) high speed quads to replace Chair 5 in the Back Bowls. The Bowls that made Vail the most respected ski area in the world would be destroyed by an onslaught of skiers tearing up the fresh powder that makes those runs so enjoyable and special. It would mean probably four times the number of skiers who would be able to rip up the powder and get back down after a high speed ride to the top.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate standing in line at the bottom of 5, but the ride back up is peaceful and relaxing. The beauty of the view from the top of the Bowls is breathtaking, and when you quadruple the number of people zooming past you to get to the powder first, you lose all that ambience forever. I say let there be one place on the mountain where we can choose to wait in line a bit longer in order to savor the beauty of those bowls and be able to take more than one run down before all the powder is ‘trashed’.

If you  are of a like mind, please consider writing me and lend your support to the move to prevent this disaster from happening. Judd Babcock
