Snow and Sales piling up at Winter Park
A look at the Winter Park Lifestyle
Gosh, up here at Winter Park (elevation at the base is 9100 feet) we are waking up everyday and having to clear the snow! Over 13 inches of dry Colorado Pow in the past 72 hours (as a transplanted flatlander, this is a wonderful thing…) and Intrawest reports 218 inches received at the base and just think, we are 4 weeks or so from our big seasonal dumps where 1-3 feet will come in a 24 hour period are typically in March! Winter Park Resort (and Town) are geographically located near the western base of the Continental Divide (and only 67 miles from Denver), which benefits the area because in essence we get more winter storms most other Colorado areas…It is because western and southern storms run in to the towering 14,000 foot peaks of the Divide while northern and eastern storms add to the snowpack. On average, Winter Park receives 369 inches of snow annually (for easy update on snow conditions anytime and most importantly, updated daily, go to

This site is also great for giving the trail conditions & status, grooming etc. You want to watch this as well as the ongoing expansion is adding runs and lifts so bookmark it on your computer so you can stay in touch.
Besides the great skiing, we have other outdoors sports going on right now… snowmobiling on the the 300+ miles of trails (public access to groomed and ungroomed available throughout the county) so bring your own or rent one of the latest machines here in town.

Want to work off some calories & take in the Grand Outdoors? Cross Country (nordic) skiing is very much at home here in our big sky country.
Two outstanding resorts, The Snow Mountain Ranch with over 100 Km of trails which has been a fixture up here in Grand County for decades and the Devil’s Thumb Ranch are having great seasons. These two facilities are located just minutes down the road from the Town of Winter Park. I am posting their websites for you, check them out as they are great venues away from crowds… See Devil’s Thumb Ranch at http://www.devilsthumbranch.com and YMCA-Snow Mountain Ranch has a winter (and summer activities including Camp Chief Ouray). Details can be found at http://www.ymcarockies.org/home/our-locations/snow-mountain-ranch
The Great Lakes of Grand County are comprised of Lake Granby, Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake and right now you will see them being shared between ice fisherman and snowmobilers!

Rocky Mountain National Park is located about 40 minutes from Winter Park. The nations 10th National Park was created by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915 but did you know, its lands were included in the historic Louisiana Purchase? That’s right, check it out at the website:

My name is John and I moved to the mountains 5 years ago and this is my playground. Our economy is strong and we are growing. Real estate is on quite a tear despite the mass media-we have new commercial space going up in Winter Park and Fraser, new subdivisions sprouting up like Grand Park, a community of Colorado Built Green (approval pending) homes, townhomes and a commercial "Town Center" including a new Winter Park-Fraser Recreation Center that will be the nucleus of Fraser and Winter Park in the coming years, planned cinema, dining and other retail outlets will be a convenient walk, bike, snowshoe or x-c away…

Across from the Winter Park Base is the community of Lakota. With a new developer, Hermes Resort Devlopment coming over from Vail, this subdivision has a whole new outlook on life. Rick brings with him a wealth of mountain and resort experience from numerous (I heard over 700 units in Vail alone) or the high country of South Carolina these new home lots, developer single family homes, duplex and triplex townhomes are going to be available at a fraction of the cost of Vail, Aspen or even Brekenridge. Great photos and information that details what is coming can be found at http://www.lakotaatwinterpark.com
These products are now starting to come out of the ground and are truly worth watching or investing in.
