Vail Mountain Lifts Stop Running
Vail Mountain closed for the '05-'06 ski season Sunday April 23
Four at Four!!! The new battle cry of the local-and-tourist-end-of-season party. Vail Mountain closed its lifts for the 2005-2006 ski season this past Sunday. Thousands of onlookers and revellers enjoyed the beautiful weather on Vail’s last ski day of the year. This mountain top event has grown in recent years, most likely due to the demise of BB & B. (For those unaware, BB&B was a rowdy end-of-season party at which locals blew off the accumulated steam of another ski season, and was done-away-with by the powers-that-be as it became a bit too rowdy.)
The skiing was absolutely fantastic, with blue skies, warm temperatures and great corn snow. Many last day participants sported costumes and retro ski wear while celebrating with cans of beer and champagne. Snow balls filled the air as testosterone fueled 20-somethings squared off from across the mountain top. This 4 at 4 party (named for the "top of Chair 4 at 4 o’clock") seems to be becoming a rite of passage for the Vail local, well, . . .at least while the weather is nice. Looking forward to another great ski season next year, and if I don’t see you soon, See you at 4 at 4!
