Vail’s Front Door project on hold due to appeal

Plans include townhomes, private club and skier services

A five-acre parcel near the base of the Vista Bahn ski lift in Vail Village is the proposed site of Vail’s Front Door project.  The project includes plans for a new plaza and skier services building, a private club and townhomes.  Vail Resorts "swapped" this land with the Forest Service for 610 acres split into two parcels: one near Vail Mountain’s Game Creek Bowl and the other - Bassar Meadows wetlands south of Eagle.

A Vail Village resident has appealed this land swap, possibly delaying construction on the Front Door project that was set to begin in the summer.  The appeal states that the five acres, valued at $5.6 million for the swap is actually worth more than $50 million, and also requests that limits be placed on the use of the parcel.

The Forest Service has 45 days to review the appeal.
