Vail’s New Dawn: Front Door Land Swap on Hold?
5 acre lot estimated value appealed by Vail resident.
The land swap between the US Forest Service and Vail Resorts may be on hold. The 5 acres of land at the base of the Vista Bahn was to be traded to the Forest Service for 610 acres, in two parcels, at the base of Game Creek Bowl and wetlands south of Eagle.
The appeal of the land swap is based on an objection that the land designated for the trade has been undervalued by the forest service with a $5million pricetag.
The land is currently slated for Vail Resorts "Front Door Project" including the following uses: townhomes, a skier services building with ski storage, ticketing, ski school, restrooms and other services; a new plaza; a private 500-member club called the Vail Alpine Club; and a new spa for the Lodge at Vail.
The Washington office of the Forest Service received the appeal Friday. The Forest Service has 45 days to review the decision.
